Crockett & Jones proves that Goodyear welted ladies shoes can be light weight and fashionable.
Crockett & Jones are world renowned for making some of the finest handmade English men’s shoes today. Unknown to many, the manufacture of ladies shoes, although relatively modest in the factory today (at around 2%), made up about 80% of production in the 1920’s/1930’s. This slowly declined to a steady 15% throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s as management decided to concentrate their efforts on the development of the men’s range which has grown dramatically over the last 50 years.
The on-going expansion of Crockett & Jones’ own retail shops brings an opportunity to make some welcomed additions to a relatively conservative ladies collection. Fashion requirements are such that ladies shoes today often lack the strength and durability that is achieved by Goodyear welted construction, not to mention the ability to repair a favoured shoe.
Crockett & Jones have developed five styles on two newly crafted lasts offering a collection of ladies shoes with a more feminine touch.
Alexis, a lace up, ghille style shoe with a punched butterfly medallion on the toe. It is made from soft, lightweight suede with bark tanned leather soles.*
Georgia, a derby shoe with a short wing cap that hosts delicate punching detail. It is made from the finest wax calf or soft suede with thin lightweight rubber soles.*
Jenny, a full brogue oxford shoe with a punched butterfly medallion on the toe, made from the finest calf leather with bark tanned leather soles.*
Phoebe, a plain fronted Chelsea boot with coloured elastic gussets. Made from the finest calf leather with bark tanned leather soles.
Zena, a derby boot with a short wing cap made from soft milled calf or suede with a comfortable, lightweight brown rubber soles.
