Factory Career Opportunities:
Clicking Room Operatives.
The first stage of production is to cut the uppers
of the shoes from the upper leather and lining leather.The Clicker is responsible for examining the leather
for any defects, scars or growth marks before deciding which part to cut the shoes
from. A good clicker will be very knowledgeable about leather and the problems which
can arise from it being a natural material, in order to maximise the usage whilst
retaining the upmost quality.
Closing Room Operatives.
The Closing Room operatives and machinists are highly skilled using traditional machines and require excellent hand and eye coordination to follow the line of the pattern. The closing room comprises of 40-50 different skills which brings with it the opportunity to become highly skilled in a number of areas.
Lasting Room Operatives.
The Lasting Room operatives are highly skilled and use traditional methods and machines throughout. In the Lasting Room the shoe begins to take its shape. The upper of the shoe is tacked on to the back of a last, pulled over at the toe by the toe laster and the lasting machine, before being side lasted by hand. Lasting is a crucial stage of production and requires a steady hand with high levels of concentration.
Finishing Room Operatives.
The Finishing Room is were the shoe begins to become the 'finished' product. The heals and soles are trimmed and to the specific shape of the last, then the finishing touches are put to the soles. They are edge set, scoured, stained, crowed, wheeled and polished, all of which are 'free hand' operations. These require a very steady hand and a high level of pride for your work and product.

They will be well paid, secure full time roles and will suit people who are flexible, reliable and have an excellent eye for detail. Experience is not a necessity but would obviously be of benefit, especially for CLICKERS. Full training offered in all departments.
