Earlier this year we were approached by friend of the brand and Style Director of Esquire, Charlie Teasdale. The initial stages were not without discussion… We seldom part-take in marketing led collaborations and have always taken the focused view that product development should be to the benefit of our customers rather than for the reasons of media placement. The reality is, our factory has a limited production and it is the role of product development to ensure that we continue to produce shoes that (you) our customers appreciate and not to produce shoes that sit on the shelves or end up in an end of season sale.
When Mr Teasdale first knocked on our door, we were immediately impressed at the core reasons behind the EDIT and also by the like-minded brands who Esquire had in their sights. It was clear that thought and insight were in abundance and with that we invited Charlie to the factory in Northampton before he set to developing his style.
We asked Charlie to comment on why he chose Crockett & Jones and what style he decided upon for the partnership.
“I am thrilled to have partnered with Crockett & Jones for the 2019 edition of the Esquire Edit. Not only does the company serve as a beacon of heritage, craftsmanship and quality, but it has been ever-present throughout my time as a men’s fashion journalist, so it gives me immense pride to work with a brand that I have admired for so long.
The shoe we have created together is one of the highlights of the 10-piece collection. A reimagining of the Lanark III Derby from the fantastic Black Editions Collection, the classic shape is subtly beefed-up by the cleated sole and rough-out suede, which used together take the shoe from traditional to something altogether more modern. That said, I think we have created the ultimate go-anywhere, do-anything lace-up, and to me, the bold orange lining is an example of true luxury: something unique that only the wearer knows is there.”
Charlie showed such an interest in Crockett & Jones, and understanding of what our company, staff and products represent we asked him to become our Style focused Guest Author on crockettandjones.com, to which he duly agreed.
Working with Esquire was very enjoyable and we are excited to see how our customers react to this limited-edition style, LANARK III in Black Rough-Out Suede. 36 pieces have been produced and are available for purchase (£420) via our Jermyn Street, Burlington Arcade and Knightsbridge stores. Customers unable to visit one of these stores can contact our London based Mail Order service to discuss fitting and delivery.
