Shoes & Shirts

Born into a family of shoemakers, with three generations of experience, Peter van den Eertwegh launched a new concept store in the field of high-end footwear service and retailing in 1988 - Shoes & Shirts.

At the time, Shoes & Shirts was a unique shop that distinguishes itself by the curation of high quality and exclusive products on offer. Shoes & Shirts sill carry a hand-selected collection of the world’s highest quality shoemakers as well as the finest collection of shirts and luxury accessories, complimenting any gentleman’s wardrobe. If you are looking for excellent quality shoes in a cosmopolitan style that is not necessarily subject to fickle trends, Shoe & Shirts bricks and mortar store is a great place for you to start.

Today, Peter’s son, Jules van den Eertwegh, now manages the family business together with his wife Véronique and a loyal team of “shoe aficionados”. We asked Jules and Veronique a few questions:

How long have you been working with Crockett & Jones?

Since the very beginning of our store in 1988. Crockett & Jones were one of the first brands that Peter, my father, wished to offer his customers.

Why did you chose to stock Crockett & Jones Shoes & Boots?

Crockett & Jones represents excellent value for money. We needed to have a top and durable product for a great price and that, for us is what sits at the centre of Crockett & Jones.

For Shoes & Shirts, which style(s) are the most iconic from the Crockett & Jones Collection?

For us this is the Portman. Besides the obvious best-sellers such as The Connaught, since we believe every gentleman should have one pair of these in his wardrobe, Portman has always been a great style for our customers. Portman is a Hand Grade ‘Demi-Boot’ with plain front and single strap and buckle. Portman is an MTO style in Black Calf, Dark Brown Antique Calf and Dark Brown Calf Suede and is available from Shoes & Shirts.

If you have any particularly fond memories of your time working with Crockett & Jones, we would love to hear and share them.

We have always felt the warm welcome of the Jones family during business meetings and conversations, they have always and still do make us feel part of the family too. But we also still have great memories to the former Export Sales Manager Mr. Robin Guinness who unexpectedly visited Peter at his private home at the beginning of our doing business together, it was a sort of pre-buying session which was very pleasant for the long term relationship that was ahead.

Shortly after the start of the cooperation Jonathan Jones decided to launch the Crockett & Jones stock program which was designed to support smaller retailers. This gave an enormous boost to our business, giving us the safety to fill-in a single pair once it was sold. Over the years the relationship got that strong that after Peter’s son Jules graduated from University and decided to come into the family business, he was given the possibility to make his very own pair of shoes at the Crockett & Jones factory in Northampton, learning all the 200 steps involved in shoemaking. During this period Mr. Robin Guinness generously offered Jules to stay in the famous ‘Ivy Cottage’, for a few months while Jules went about his training.
