Lasting Variations... 236

The next in our ‘Lasting Variations’ series is Last 236. Famed, if not through length of service alone, for the successful use for business Oxfords. Shorter than the more recent last, it offers a rounded toe shape iconic to its only remaining style – Connaught. Available in three colourways, Chestnut Burnished Calf, Dark Brown Burnished Calf and Black Calf (also available in F fitting) whilst sporting a leather sole, the Connaught is our longest-standing straight cap Oxford from the Men’s Main Collection. Our ongoing last development saw the introduction of last 379 in June 2019 and the evolution of Connaught, one step further – creating Connaught 2. Taking the toe shape 'only' of 236 with an entirely new fitting cone and back-part, this superior last will pave the way for exceptional formal business Oxfords for many years to come. Also available on last 379 is Westgate 2, a classic full brogue Oxford available in Tan Burnished Calf, Black Calf and Dark Brown Calf Suede with our ‘City’ rubber sole.

Last 236

Date of Origin: January 1961

Last 236 is a Main Collection last with a blunt round toe, the most traditional Crockett & Jones toe shape used for formal business Oxfords. Connaught is now the only remaining style on last 236, with an air of the English shoe trade from years gone by. There are no plans to discontinue this traditional toe shape with its slightly shorter forepart.

Last 379

Date of Origin: June 2019

Last 379 is a Main Collection last with a classical round toe. Taking its toe shape (only) from the long appreciated 236 last, this updated version has been remodelled and reformed to produce an exceptional last for formal business Oxfords. The resulting last is a traditional and recognisable Crockett & Jones toe shape that has been blended with an excellent fitting and technically superior last throughout the joint, the cone, the waist and full back-part. Connaught 2 and Westgate 2 continue to carry an air of the English shoe trade excellence.

Fitting advice from retail… Last 236 presents one of our shorter toe shapes, and, while fitting true to size, the wearer will find the forepart depth slightly shallower. The toe shape is aesthetically similar to lasts 363 and 341.
