From Friday, Crockett & Jones down tools for our traditional ‘factory fortnight’. Although, our factory shutdown is not exactly a shutdown. Yes, it is where the cogs of footwear production stop turning for a while, but there is no rest for a factory like ours. During the two week break, we breathe new life into our century old factory and Victorian machinery, rejuvenating all that lies inside. A different type of work commences inside our factory walls. Rebuilding an intricately engineered toe laster, installing a new boiler or four, cleaning the sprinkler system that is run from a water tank the size of a swimming pool, servicing of the three lifts that work like yo-yo’s day in day out throughout the year… even the paint brushes come out. A deep cleanse and full body massage is what the factory has ordered, and exactly that shall be delivered, in thanks to your hard work this year.
As we close our doors during the hottest part of the year, the schools break up and the holiday shenanigans begin! Family time is the order of the day for our staff. Recuperate yourselves, forget about shoes (if you can) wiggle your toes in the sand and get ready for the busy Autumn / Winter season to come. For our customers, our retail stores will of course remain at your service, welcoming you in with open arms.
With a mere six weeks until AW19 it isn’t long until we can finally introduce you to our new styles for the season ahead. Two new Hand Grade styles. Two new Oxfords on a new Last, perfect for this category. Five new Shell Cordovan options. An all calf Albert pump and another city sole Cavendish! Two serious Winter boots…! The Black Editions Part II… And… A trio of specialist styles created to celebrate our 140th Anniversary. All feature an elevated Hand Grade specification and have been developed on a new Last created especially for this collection... No, we hadn’t forgotten that it is our 140th birthday.
Before we pack our cases and set off on our factory fortnight, we thought we would take a look at those perfect ‘partners in crime’ for warmer climes.
We could rename TEIGN, ‘The Summer Workhorse’.
Can TEIGN be bettered as a ‘go to’ summer Penny Loafer. Our Head of Marketing, Mr Fox is struggling to find reasons why not to wear both colourways all summer. He says, “Available in Dark Brown and Navy Suede you could argue that the only downside is that it misses the flexibility of our City rubber sole, but we are working on that.”
CAVENDISH or CAMDEN. To tassel or not to tassel…
CAVENDISH has to be one of the most recognised Tassel Loafers in the world today and customers continue to surpass our imagination of how to wear them. Dressing them up and down to whatever takes their fancy, bravo to those who wear them with shorts. CAMDEN has been somewhat of a Spring/Summer marvel. Unlined and made using soft Suede uppers with our flexible leather sole or city rubber sole it really is Goodyear-welted comfort! Have we produced the perfect, dare I say it, sockless Loafer? Is that even a thing? Maybe it is now… The Sockless Loafer!
