Crockett & Jones offers two types of suede suitable for inclement weather. Repello Suede, which carries the misconception of being delicate, and Rough-Out Suede, a leather that is anything but delicate! These two materials can be worn and enjoyed, whatever the weather.
Our most popular Repello Suede colours, from the illustrious CF Steads, offer a high level of water resistance straight out of the box. In the past, scotch guarding was historically a post-production process that involved spraying chemicals onto the surface of the suede. Today, proofing is obtained through the use of hydrophobic, water-proof fat liquors that are added during the tanning process.
If a classic, napped suede isn’t for you and you prefer something with more guts, one of our most popular water-resistant leathers is Rough-Out Suede. Hosting benefits that many customers around the world enjoy. Rough-Out Suede is perhaps the most casual material we offer, which aids in its versatility no-end. A robust, waxed suede that is hardwearing and heavily water-resistant, it’s one of the most practical materials a man could wish to include in his footwear collection. Moreover, while a material that’s ideally suited to the great outdoors, it steps between town and country with ease.
It will not harm the leather to give your shoes/boots an additional spritz of Super Invulner. A few passes up and down the vamps, and you’re ready to hit the great outdoors. This surface treatment is no longer necessary, but it is still recommended, given the battering most of us give our footwear.
Every 12 – 18 months, we recommend that you clean off those stubborn stains with a suede cleaner. A deep clean can really rejuvenate the nap. For this, use Omni’Nettoyant. Follow this with another spritz with our Super Invulner spray, maybe one of our suede sprays with colour pigmentation… Suede is super easy to care for and should definitely be enjoyed without fear of rain!
