The Goodyear Welted footwear construction, and high quality materials, that Crockett & Jones use, coupled with the ability to repair our worn footwear, promote longevity of use. With correct care it is usual for our footwear to last for many years. We review aspects of the business where we can be sustainable, and as a family business, welcome new ideas and technology in order to make further improvements.
We endeavour to minimise waste. We employ the services of a licensed waste management company for the disposal of waste, and a green waste recycling business. Our buildings maintenance is always conducted with a long-term view using sustainable materials and local tradesmen where feasible. We have changed lighting in order to use less energy, and have also upgraded our heating systems to become more energy efficient. A large number of our employees live locally, and we also run transport to help reduce commuting levels.
Social Issues: Workplace
Crockett and Jones offers equal opportunity to all employees. We are proud of the average length of service of our employees, and of their diversity. We are keen for our employees to develop their skills further, and offer in-house training. We offer annually reviewed remuneration, and often promote from within. Health and safety legislation is adhered to, and fire safety training is also conducted.
Social Issues: Local Community
Being located in a residential area, we respect our neighbourhood, and have also been able to offer defibrillator access to the local community. We are pleased that we have been able to support local charities.
Social Issues: Marketplace and Global Community
The vast majority of our suppliers have a long-term relationship with Crockett and Jones. They ensure that all materials meet requirements both technically, and legislatively, and supply ourselves with the necessary accreditation. Our sales and marketing departments ensure that our retailers are supplied with this information so that they can advise clients accordingly.
Leather Sourcing Policy
Leathers used in the manufacture of Crockett & Jones footwear are carefully sourced from the finest tanneries across Europe, and the United States of America. These tanneries have global recognition for their quality standards and have relevant ISO accreditation. They all meet REACH obligations and adhere to strict EU and international legislation.
We use a small number of exotic skins which are farmed, and ensure that no rare breeds are used, all skins used are CITES certified.
Several our leather suppliers mark each skin with a laser marking tool to ensure traceability, and many of the tanneries that we use are members of the Leather Working Group, which displays a commitment to the highest environmental standards. Other tanneries that we source from rely on OKEO-TEX certification. OKEO-TEX label is awarded to harmless leathers, and the certification label also works with tanneries to implement environmentally friendly processes and good health & safety practices.
