Produced in January 1954. Last 228 is a Main Collection last, with a medium round toe and generous toe depth. Dating back to the mid 50s, the last was developed to be used for country walking shoes and boots. In 2015, last 228 cemented itself into Crockett & Jones’s legacy, when Radnor in Black Calf appeared in James Bond’s SPECTRE. The rugged Commando sole that often accompanies models made on this last is quite firm during the initial wear. With the outdoor nature of this boot, when fitting, bear in mind that you may want to wear heavier weight socks.
The Veldtschoen construction method is our most water-resistant method of producing welted shoes & boots. By turning the waxed upper leather outwards and over the welt that is stitched to the leather lining, we conceal the feather line, allowing for excess water to run away without penetrating the boots.
